CTS 2.0T - $46,550 while CT6 2.0T - $54,490
CTS 3.6L - $54,280 ($55,285) while CT6 3.6L - $56,490 ($61,390)
CTS 3.6T - $60,950 while CT6 3.0T - $65,390 ($68,565)
Cadillac is so weird with their trims which engine omits which trims. I’ll have to figure out Cadillac’s goofy optioning schematics another time, but I think the CT6 is “supposed” to be around $8,000 more than a directly comparable CTS.
By the way, the CT6 3.0T Platinum starts at $88,460. There is pretty much a $20,000 gap between the Luxury-Premium and Platinum trims on the 3.6L and 3.0T equipped CT6s. The Platinum trim is literally just a discount for buying a fully loaded model.
Here is my theory though, the CT6 is the new CTS LWB!
The CTS is coming up on a facelift, this is what will happen. It will get the face, rear, and interior from the current CT6. The CTS will become the CT6 and the CT6 will become the CT6-L. Confusing? Good, then it’s right in character for Johan de Nysschen. On the positive side, this allows us to figure out the future line up:
CT2 (Upcoming entry level sedan)
CT3 (CT2 Coupe, 2-series fighter since currently best enthusiast BMW)
CT4 (Remodel ATS Sedan, but slightly longer like all redesigns)
CT5 (Remodel ATS Coupe)
CT6 (CTS refresh)
CT6-L (current CT6)
CT7 (The long absent successor to the CTS Coupe)
CT8 (S-class/7-series fighter)
Due to both the S-class and 7-series going LWB as standard in the US, this means LWB mid-sizers will replace the short wheelbase version of luxury flagships in North America. How often do you see XJLs and A8Ls in the US? I would say there’s a 3:5 (60%) take rate where I live at least. Why not make the LWB standard and push your top sedan further upmarket and turn what used to be a base model into a top end, prestigious option on your midsizer? Nothing but wins, especially since midsize luxury sedans are the least remembered in the lineups (for me at least). I tend to forget A6, GS, 5-series, and E-class because there is a high performance compact in the same price range, or a higher badged just above them. A4, _, A8 and IS, _, LS in my mind. Unless I’m looking used, then I always remember the middle children.
In case you’re wondering:
_ (nothing because Buick and GMC)
XT3 (Compact CUV)
XT5 (SRX replacement. RX, XC60, Q5 competitor)
XT7 (Three-row CUV. XC90, Q7 competitor)
Escalade (Would be XT9, but too much brand equity)
Seems like Caddy will be a BMW/Jag contender in driving dynamics when it comes to the sedans while the SUVs will go for Audi and Volvo instead of BMW and Porsche. I think that is a solid strategy. If Cadillac does decide to go after the Macan, F-Pace, X5, and Cayenne then those models will be separated and called the XT4 (Compact Sports CUV) and the XT6 (Midsize 2-row CUV). Luckily Cadillac’s design language does allow for X6/GLE “coupe” silliness.
That's gonna leave a mark!

That’s a lot of mental work. Ever consider that darts were involved when Cadillac did their pricing?

I like your train of thought but here is my issue. It has been stated a few times that the CT6 will not get a V-series. And the CTS has one so if the CTS becomes the CT6 where does that leave the CTS-V?

The CTS is going away and becoming a CT#. If there is a CTS-V it’ll be the new CT# replacement for the CTS.
I could see a CT5 that's the size of the current CTS slotted under the CT6.

I agree with you. I was justing pointing out a current error to his numbering scheme.

CTS-V becomes the CT6-V. But the current CT6 will not because LWB models typically don’t receive top performance variants. So no lie, the CT6 won’t have a V model, but the actual CT6 will.

I’m going to sit down and figure out the dart gane, this made me curious and that will be a fun project for me

Maybe. I don’t disagree with your lineup, but I do disagree on the names. I don’t see Cadillac re-positioning the CT6 as a CT6-L. I think a CT5 is more likely with the CT6 staying as is.

I actually think CT5 is exactly what they’ll do (because CT5 and CTS look identical as badges). However they’ll need to modify the names of their line up again if they decide to offer more body styles. Right now they are going the same direction as Jag and Maserati, all sedans, a couple CUVs, a sportscar/convertible, and a compact 2-door. That isn’t enough variety to keep up with Infiniti, Lexus, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. Genesis will have the same product diversity as Caddy within the decade!

“Too much brand equity” hahaha, amusing. As if that ever stopped them before.
